Timing is really important. A good startup sees where things are heading or pivoting. There is nothing that can fix bad timing of an industry or market short of complete transformation of what you're doing.

Invest in your employees' job satisfaction. Keep growing them, and make them want to stay. There is really very little value that doesn't stem from seasoned human capital.
