Tangent: looking for a monitor recommendations for programming purpose. And also somthing which wouldn't be too harsh on the pocket.

Dell U2412 or it's successor U2415. Cheap, IPS, 16:10, decent adjustable stand.

I can't recommend the U2415. Unfortunately this is one of these models where Dell chose to tarnish the Ultrasharp series with crap so you can't just say any more to "just get an Dell Ultrasharp".

The U2415 has a horrible power supply which gets very noisy by design and it has a 6 bit panel with noticeable temporal dithering.

I'd pick one of the 2560x14440 U27xx models (after checking they're not crap like the U2715). But beware that some of the older models (like the U2713) don't take the full resolution over HDMI and need Displayport or dual-link DVI.

Look for these second hand, the 27" versions are much better, and I think many developers upgraded to those.
