The city of Dresden rebuilt a destroyed cathedral from the ruins. I believe that they used as much original material as possible. The entire city is amazing, but checkout the Frauenkirche

FPH was posting photos of imgur's staff and sending them hatemail, I belive.

So there is a question about that I have for you:

Was it that they posted a picture of the staff of Imgur that hatemail was sent, or was hatemail sent because Imgur just decided to wipe them out?

----

Did FPH cross the line with the pic. Mostly yes... But they didn't put personal information on it. Nor was it an drive to attack them. (It was done in satire [even "the dog is fat"]

Is Imgur required to host FPH content?

Imgur is a private website that can moderate content as it sees fit. They didn't want to be associated with a hateful community, imgur generally tries to encourage positivity from what I've seen.

The appropriate response is not to harass people. It's amazing how difficult that concept is. What might seem like "satire" to you is pretty messed up behavior, and in others contexts would be an outright threat

They are free to choose not to host the content anymore. I believe that any hate mail that they recieved, that was the reaction due to their decision. (Not endorsed by the subreddit it's self)

The mods were posting photos of imgur staff, and included the photos in the subreddit's css.

Seems like strong endorsement to me

Do you have any data that shows that trend? I frequently see threads where people complain about how blatant the effect is and how hard they're being brigaded, usually with 300+ karma

Not right now - SRS is blocked at work.

One simple experiment is to look at the front page of the subreddit - each link description has, per the rules, the amount of comment karma it has when it was submitted. Look at relatively new posts, and look at the difference in karma at submission time and then as time goes on.

I tried this a few times months ago, and being linked from SRS led to a significant decline in scores on every post in the top 25.

It looks like there's an increase in karma score after it gets linked from SRS

Two things I noticed - all of those comments are more than 12 hours old, which is long enough for the communities the comments came from to counter the downvoting.

It also appears that these are copypasted straight from the front page, you'd have to click through and look at the score on the linked subreddit.

The second part of each line was the comment score/username after I clicked through link, I'll add a timestamp of when I viewed them

(submitted 33 minutes ago by so_srs) "The modern view on gender: Acceptable: Female and spending most of your time on the celphone, reading literotica, and playing candy crush. Unacceptable: Male and spending most of your time on the computer, watching porn, and playing World of Warcraft." [+25] (reddit.com) -> (at 1:16 CST)[–]comosayllama 68 points an hour ago

(submitted 3 hours ago by cakevodka ) things Hitler did were terrible for sure, but, at the same time, it would be intellectually dishonest to not call him a great politician and orator. The fact that he tried to wipe out a couple races and nationalities does not make his achievements in politics and economics any less significant [+66] (reddit.com) -> (1:17 CST) [–]_Pornosonic_ 144 points 7 hours ago

Those combined with the 3 earlier comments I posted make up the last five submissions to /r/shitredditsays(with the exception of one where the original comment was deleted), the first part is the linked comment and the second is the comment score(now with timestamp!)

I can't actually find a single instance from the front page where the score goes down after being submitted. The opposite is usually the case, where the score increases after being posted to SRS

It seems like he deeply believes in it. I don't think he realizes it's just a modern version of Pascal's wager

In attempting to debunk this sort of statement, he has literally written the following: "In the hands of RationalWiki generally, and RationalWiki leader David Gerard particularly ..., [the fictional version of the Roko's Basilisk event] somehow metamorphosed into a Singularity cult that tried to get people to believe a Pascal's Wager argument to donate to their AI god on pain of torture. This cult that has literally never existed anywhere except in the imagination of David Gerard."[1]

"This sentence is a lie." He doesn't seem to actually debunk the idea, just yells about David Gerard for a bit. Can you explain how it's different from Pascal's Wager?

At least the part where it's implied that "Someone from organization X used the basilisk to convince innocent bystanders to donate to X" is false, for any value of X that I know of. Pascal's Wager is/was (I imagine?) used to get people to subscribe to various churches and give them money.

Thinking in terms of wings is stupid. There are people on our very own hn who think that way though https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8990458

One of the comments in the article had a link to the wallpapers http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=706209438639911...

Some of those are surreal. Is it me, or did they photoshop farm machinery into their fields?

They're all photo-illustrations or outright painting/drawings.

Number of transactions would probably be a better metric

"WARNING: Forgotten passwords are UNRECOVERABLE and will results in LOSS of ALL of your bitcoins!"

I hate when my banker says this to me about online banking.

Then use Coinbase, which says "you'll have to trust us with your coin, and hope we don't get hacked".

Honestly, I prefer it to "WARNING: Your password must be 6-8 characters and contain no numbers or symbols"
