Hi Everyone - I posted about our startup, Utradea, few months back and wanted to share our progress and updates since then (original post - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26893096)

Also - thank you to all the people who provided comments and feedback on our first post - we have made several changes and added some of the larger updates to our dev roadmap

Background:

We have seen a significant increase in the number of retail investors. Thanks to growth in investment/trading apps, ability to participate in the market has never been easier. People know they need to invest, but don't know what to invest in. Utradea is a dedicated platform for investment ideas and insights. Our goal is to empower retail investors with the tools and information needed to make better investment decisions.

My co-founder and I came up with the idea for Utradea about a year ago when we realized that we loved discussing our investment/stock ideas and process. This expanded within our friend group, at least to people who were interested in the stock market. We thought it would be great to have a platform where we could have social interactions and combine it with core investment information/data. So, we created Utradea.

A lot has happened in the last 2 months.

New Features and Updates:

- Launched iOS and Android Apps (built in-house) - 70% of our visitors are on mobile so it only made sense to have mobile apps --- Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.utradea.ut... --- iOS: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/utradea/id1558492959

- Reddit Sentiment Analysis (to be expanded to other social media platforms) - We built a dashboard to track trending stocks on Reddit to help identify potential investment opportunities

- SEC Filing Analysis with NLP - SEC Filings have a ton of great information but are a pain to read - we pull out key phrases and insights so you don't have to read through the whole document. Again, useful for finding investment opportunities.

What's on our dev roadmap?

- Portfolio Rebalancer - Automatically reviews the weighting in your investment portfolio to determine if you should keep the mix or rebalance to maximize returns.

- Automated DCF - A pre-filed discounted cash flow calculator with a few easily adjustable inputs to quickly find the intrinsic value of a stock.

- Automated Due Diligence - Pulls key metrics and information about a stock and presents it in a easy to read format with key information needed for an investment decision.

We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Thanks for checking it out!

Yes, right now we are leaning towards broker integration so users could stay with their existing brokerages. We want to make it easy for users to find an investment idea, validate it, then place a trade without leaving Utradea

Thanks for letting us know! We want you to enjoy using the platform and the feel/experience is critical.

Thanks for the feedback - we love TradingView for charts and technical but it can sometimes be overwhelming, especially for newer investors.

That is definitely one way to approach it. eToro (copy trading) already exists and commonstock is similar - you can see someone portfolio and % holdings but not their $ amount. We are focused on investment ideas, social engagement, and building a community.

How do you know the person's ideas are useful is my issue. With Reddit you have all sorts of comments, and you have no idea if this person is posting random ideas, or if they are actually good at what they do. The issue is who is going to engage here is my concern. StockTwits has it by stock which works and creates a conversation. Here the main page has daily stories, so the conversation has to occur right away.

Equating posts (news) with a change in price is not an investment idea. Most of the time, the news is counter to the way the stock moves in the short term. I think you need to find a way to differentiate yourself. The UI is nice and all the info available is great however I think you need a something to provide to your end user with respect to engagement/community, but news stories die so fast it's hard to create a conversation around that.

The biggest difference is that eToro is copy trading based and Utradea is investment idea based. We let users make their onw investing decision, you don't have to copy another persons trades as you would with eToro.

Lol, maybe from a year ago before it was overrun by bots. There used to be some quality investment ideas on the sub

Good question, AlphaSwap is operates on a reward based system for investment ideas/content that factors in both community consensus voting and performance of the idea. We are more focused on the social engagement aspect of bringing investors together.

Agree with the point about stocktwits - not the best place for investment quality investment content or discussions. Let me know if you have any suggestions on things you'd like to see.
