As a resident of TN, I can say that rock climbing isn't the only outdoor activity that we have awesome access to. Within an hour and half of Chattanooga are some great whitewater kayaking spots, including the Ocoee, Rock Island, spots on the Cumberland Plateau, and several rivers in the Smoky Mountains.
One of the big advantages of redshift is the postgres protocol compatibility. Which means I don't have to rewrite code to connect to redshift and run queries. It seems that BitYota wants me to run queries via json. Really? Why would I lock my code into using something like that?
I think you are misreading the Bityota pages. On the contrary, you CAN run queries with JSON... but you can also just pass in regular SQL statements. I guess Postgres direct protocol is handy; I find that ODBC covers many of my needs, so I haven't actually looked at Bityota as a Postgres drop-in.
Might be worth playing with what Bityota offers; Postgres is awesome but sometimes makes you bend over backwards to do things that are easier in other systems. Paraccel/Redshift has some good extensions, but sometimes there are better ways to do things.
I find it interesting that the in his post, Brian insinuates that he can't afford to fight this legal battle. However, in the emails between him and the WhosHere people he talks about his large trust fund.
i think the key to remember when looking at google vs possible competitors isn't the actual hardware, but the software behind the glasses. Yes, Oakley might be making their own HUD glasses, and they will probably be very good looking and functional, but will they be useful.
And people still wonder why publications like these aren't considered serious purveyors of content. The goal isn't to spread information and break stories, instead it's to get eyeballs and sell advertisements.
There seems to be certain amount of confirmation bias in the post. He started with the premise that python resources are ugly, then found examples that proved his point. If you look at his twitter feed, he was asking for particular resources/pages that confirmed what he already thought.
